What is Cosmelan and what can it do?

It’s being hailed as the butterfly treatment of the beauty world.

Your skin, marked and discoloured by the ravages of time and the harsh Australian climate, emerges to feel smooth, renewed and clear.

Originating in Spain, Cosmelan is the gold standard depigmentation peel system taking the esthiology world by storm. It’s become the go to across the globe for pigmentation and uneven skin tone.

Why? Because it works.

So what is Cosmelan and what can it do?

In simple terms, Cosmelan performs two main actions to reduce hyperpigmentation.

Firstly, it exfoliates the skin to an even skin tone by removing layers of dead skin cells that have built up over time.

Secondly, it inhibits the production of melanin which is responsible for creating the color/tone of your skin and is the root cause of dark spots and hyperpigmentation.

The popular treatment;

  • Causes minimal discomfort.

  • Balances the skin’s oil production.

  • Offers quick results.

  • Has minimal side effects.

The big advantage of this treatment is that it is safe and suitable to be used on ALL skin tones and types.

So, how is it done?

The process takes place in two stages.

The first stage is the application of a thick, mud-like mask, packed full of active ingredients. This mask contains Azelaic Acid, Kojic Acid, Phytic Acid, Ascorbic Acid, Arbutine, and Titanium Dioxide.

The first phase of the two-step program is performed in clinic where the skin is prepped, followed by the application of the de-pigmentation mask. The mask is then left on the skin between six to 12 hours, depending on your skin type. This will be determined by our trained professionals.

It’s then washed off at home with the aftercare products provided.

Now, this is where things really start to happen.

The following days after the treatment. Your skin may begin to feel tight and appear red. On about the third day, your skin will experience peeling.

You will be provided with the second phase of the treatment for at home use and there are strict guidelines with homecare to ensure the best results. SPF is vital, as well as keeping the skin well hydrated to help reduce dryness.

The second step is the use of Cosmelan 2. This treatment is applied to prevent reoccurrence of discolouration. This is what’s called a tyrosinase inhibitor, which works by sedating the production of excess melanin.

It’s important not to pick or pull the skin. Downtime can vary and can last anywhere from four to 14 days, but can vary.

You must follow the aftercare plan and we strongly recommend pairing the treatment with multiple LED therapy treatments for best results. This is where we differ from others who perform the treatment. LED should be promoted to sooth your skin and enhance the treatment. Coming in for regular LED Light Therapy also provides us with an opportunity to monitor your progress closing and tailor your aftercare to meet your individual needs.

It may take 3 to 6 weeks to see the full results of the treatment, but it will be worth it.

Your skin will emerge looking fresh, clear and pigment free.
